2) Is there a significant similarity between Olivia's brother dying and Viola's brother who's state is questionable?
3) Why does Viola see the need to dress like a boy?
4) Why do the character's love interests change so quickly?
5) Why does Viola want to shield herself from everyone like Olivia does?
6) Why is the Fool so unpleasant?

Question #5: I think both Olivia and Viola shield themselves from society because they are both vulnerable by the absences of their brothers. The women realize that they are vulnerable and do not want men taking advantage of this fact, so they decide to shield themselves from men and society altogether. The need and want time to gather up their confidence again, since they were most likely used to being protected and looked over by their brothers.
ReplyDelete6. I'm not sure if my answers right, but I feel like the fool speaks in such a way because he is like the voice of reason in the play. A sane voice, that has no emotional to ties to the characters.
ReplyDelete3) Viola needs to dress like a boy in order to become Orsino's servant. Orsino sends "Cesario" to Olivia in order to confess his love for her. He feels that sending Cesario will win her over due to his youth and looks.
ReplyDelete6) The Fool is so unpleasant because unlike the rest of the characters, he is not hiding his feelings. He is upfront with everything and can be said to be the most witty character in the play.
